Everything, Everything was EVERYTHING!

Movie Review: Everything,Everything!

I had the opportunity to screen the film Everything,Everything this week before it hits theaters this Friday! Okay, let me be the first to say I am a SUCKER for great love movies.  Before checking this film out I was hoping it would'nt be like the normal teen love movies that have surfaced over the past few years. Well let me tell you. It was NOT! Everything,Everything was Everything. No, I am not just saying that. A little juice about the film....The movie takes place in Southern California and is centered around Maddy who is played by Amandla Stenberg.  Maddy suffers with an unknown disease which prevents her from leaving her home or interacting with others. The disease was said in the film but, honestly I can't remember exactly what it was. (Whoops!) For 18 years she has basically been on house arrest. Not even allowed to step foot outside due to her disease.Which personally I couldn't even imagine. The only people she has had physical contact with is her mom Pauline, who is played by the amazing actress Anika Noni Rose. Here for this BLACK GIRL MAJIC!!!! In addition to her mom, the only people who are allowed in the house is her caretaker Carla and Carla's daughter Rose. Eventually, new neighbors move in, including handsome Olly. Maddy and Olly's bedroom windows face one another and they strike up a friendship through texting. The actor who plays the role of Olly,Nick Robinson, is such a cutie I must add. Some of you may remember him from the latest Jurassic World that came out in 2015. He doesn't even look like the same kid.Maybe it's the hair? As time passes Maddy convinces her caretaker Carla to let Olly come in!  But, making sure to keep it a secret from Maddys mom! Fast forward a couple of scenes and Maddy sees Olly's father attack him through their home security camera. She rushes out of the home to intervene. Not even thinking that she could get sick. Pauline then realizes that Maddy has gotten close to Olly, and eventually fires Carla for facilitating their visits. (BOO!) Moms know everything. lol If they don't know they eventually find out! We ALL know this! Maddy then takes a HUGE risk and lies to Olly to get him to take her to Hawaii! She gets tired of being trapped in the house and scared to live due to her condition. Okay, I don't want to give tooooo much of the movie away! One major thing that really makes this movie stand out is that the lead actress is biracial! The fact that the couple is interracial is just so the 20th century and I'm all for it! Not to many love stories with a biracial couple! I read somewhere that Amandla at first overlooked this script  because she figured this character would be played by a white actress. She then realized that the writer of the book had specifically written this book for a biracial girl to play the lead role. Which is good because I can't imagine anyone else playing this role! The music in the scenes, the actors and the plot was just so bomb in my opinion. Let me just say there is a HUGE PLOT TWIST to this story!!! HUGE! I can also say this story honestly didn't end the way I expected it too! I also love, love, LOVE that the director of this film was an African American woman by the name of Stella Meghie!! This was such a beautiful film! So, if you're looking for a movie to catch this weekend grab your best friend, boyfriend, mom, aunt, whoever and head to the theatre to check it out. It will be worth every penny!
