16 years ago in Hip Hop The Diplomats better known as Dipset dropped their debut album “Diplomatic Immunity”.

Diplomats was made up of Harlem heavyweights Camron, Jim Jones, Freekey Zekey and Juelz Santana, who joined the group in '99.

( From L to R: Freekey Zekey , Julez Santana, Cam, Jim Jones)

The debut album was a 2 disk album which is something that is rare in this day & age. But, then again who actually purchases albums anymore? The album included 26 songs produced by some elite’s such as Kanye west , Heatmakerz and Just Blaze to name a few. Some of the album features singles include "Dipset Anthem", "I Really Mean It", "Ground Zero", and "Bout It Bout It...Part III" (featuring Master P).

After releasing, the Album debuted at #8 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Gold by the RIAA. It’s still a classic album and my all time favorite produced by Just blaze “I really mean It” is still a hot song today.

It wasn’t just the music that made them special though. The Harlem natives gave hip hop fans a brand new style. They helped bring the style of NBA warmups, and fitteds, Juelz Santana’s signature bandana, digital belts, G-Shock watches, making it cool to wear pink (we all remember this phase), and gold earrings Cam’ron called “lemon heads.”

The group’s signing can be seen as the peak of the Roc-A-Fella era

Following this classic album was Diplomatic Immunity 2. Dipset was one of the hottest groups coming out of New york back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. In my opinion they are still one of hottest Hip Hop groups that ever entered the hip hop scene. No matter the era, any time yet songs on this album still get some of the best reactions when played in the middle of a party. So Salute to the Diplomats for providing hip hop with such a pioneer album that we will forever jam like its our first time hearing it.
