Spotlight on Terrence Terrell

Millennial Speaks Spotlights:

"Blacky" Author Terrence Terrell

I had the opportunity to chat with the author of Blacky, Terrence Terrel. I was SUPER excited for this interview because his book has been everywhere on Instagram. Blacky is the first book of Terrence’s 3 book series that he plans to release. After chatting with him today I am excited to see what else he has in store for his children's book collection. I also learned so much after our chat… for one, Blacky was written in 45 minutes! FOURTY-FIVE minutes! It takes me longer to write a blog post {jokingly laughs}. Another interesting fact is that Terrence was contacted by his publishing company the very next day after randomly sending his book to them the night before. I must say, God does work in mysterious ways! What warmed my heart the MOST was that I called Terrence right after he just finished reading to a group of 3rd and 6th graders… How cute is that?! Not only is he pursuing his acting career, he is also taking the time to spread awareness on self-love, starting with sharing and reading his book to youth at public schools. Terrence was such humble spirit through the phone. It just shows how amazing God works.

Terrence is setting the tone by creating a children's book that teaches the youth about self-love. This topic is very much needed in this day and age, especially in this “social media era” where our youth is growing up in. Everyday kids get picked on because of the way they look, and this book teaches our youth, especially young Black boys, to accept what makes them different. If I must be honest, although this is a children's book, I feel that adults can also learn a thing or two from it. We are expected to look a certain way to be considered beautiful, when honestly, in Gods eyes we are all beautiful in our own way. Terrence wrote this book during a time in his life when he going through depression not knowing how big of an impact he would make with his work. He reflected on how he dealt with self-love as a kid, which explains that’s why it was so easy for him to write this book. It was so natural for him because he was telling HIS story. I must admit what I admire the most about Terrence is how he is being a positive role model to young black men. This is something we strongly need in the African American community. There is so much negativity surrounding young black males in America right now, and he is making a difference by encouraging and shedding light on self-love. So, thank you Terrence. You are showing them that it is okay to be different and to embrace those differences. All that matters is the self-love.

Normally I do a write up of my interviews but for this interview I wanted to attach the audio so you can guys can fully engage in Terrence’s and I conversation. I plan to attach my interviews’ audios so that you guys can listen to them… Since I know some of my subscribers prefer audio over reading {wink} Check out the link below for the full interview.
